BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ABOUT OUR BOARD

Comprised of teachers, parents, and community friends, our Board of Directors is dedicated to holistic, Waldorf inspired education that engages the whole child. The Board provides guidance and leadership in promoting, supporting and carrying out the mission and long-term vision of Singing Cedars School, working collaboratively with the Faculty and school community. The Board also oversees committees that carry out the work of the school.

Gillian Popenuck Board President

Gillian Popenuck joined the Board of Singing Cedars in March 2025 and currently serves as President and Chair of the Development Committee. She is also a member of the Finance and Governance Committees. With a background in business management, event planning, and organizational leadership, Gillian brings strong skills in financial management, community cooperation, and team building. She has held numerous community leadership roles and is passionate about fostering connections, engaging people’s unique talents, and strengthening community ties to support the school’s mission.

As an alumni parent of two grades program students, Gillian is inspired by the school’s commitment to nature-based education, fully engaged learning, and its capacity to nurture a deep spiritual connection while raising thoughtful, active citizens. She enjoys homeschooling her three children on their family’s homestead, crafting, celebrating the seasons, and hosting gatherings at their biodynamic farm and community space.

Jenn Rich Board Treasurer

Jenn Rich joined the board in October 2023 and currently serves as the Treasurer. She brings over a decade of experience as a small business owner and retail manager, with expertise in sustainable living, business operations, and creating environments that foster community and connection.

Jenn has two children who have attended Singing Cedars since 2023, and is deeply aligned with the school’s mission to provide holistic, Waldorf-inspired education that emphasizes both nature and beauty. Beyond her board service, she is an avid runner and enjoys sewing, knitting, and creating handmade toys for her children.

Richard Glatz

Richard Glatz joined the Board of Directors in February 2025 as a dedicated supporter of Waldorf inspired education and a parent of two students at Singing Cedars. Drawn to the school’s nature-based, child-centered approach, he was inspired by the care, reverence, and intentionality with which students are met each day. Watching his own children thrive in this environment motivated him to help steward and support the school for the benefit of other families in the community.

Richard holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and has experience teaching both at the college level and in a games-based, analytical thinking skills curriculum for school-aged children in Singapore. He now works in tech as an ontologist, bringing his strengths in conceptual design and information processing to his role on the board.

He’s especially passionate about supporting Singing Cedars in establishing a firm and healthy basis for growth, laying the same kind of thoughtful foundation for the school that the curriculum provides for the children it serves. Outside of work and board service, Richard enjoys cooking and baking, engaging in many things nerdy (especially playful, imaginative games), and being unapologetically goofy, silly, and joyfully ridiculous with his family.

GOVERNANCE

Singing Cedars is guided by a collaborative governance model that includes our Board of Directors, School Administration, and College of Teachers. Together, these groups steward the school's mission, support it's operations, and guide the long-term health of the organization.

BOARD COMMITTEES

Finance supports the school’s mission by responsibll stewarding financial resources and long-term sustainability. The committee oversees financial practices, develops the annual budget, and plans strategically for the school’s future financial needs.

Outreach & Communication fosters meaningful connection within the school community and beyond. This committee oversees communication channels, public relations, and outreach efforts.

Health & Safety supports a safe, healthy, and secure environment for students, staff, and families. The committee provides oversight of health-related policies and safety practices, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Development advances the school’s mission through fundraising and donor stewardship. The committee coordinates initiatives such as the annual Giving Campaign and cultivates a culture of generosity to strengthen long-term sustainability.

Governance ensures that board policies and procedures are ethical, legally compliant, and aligned with the school’s mission and strategic goals. The committee develops, reviews, and maintains governing policies.

Buildings & Grounds maintains and improves the school’s facilities and campus environment. Meeting biannually and as needed, the committee works with staff and volunteers to ensure that the campus remains safe, functional, and welcoming for daily use, festivals, and community events.
