About Singing Cedars

Singing Cedars is a small, independent, non-profit school located on a three acre campus in rural southeast Iowa.

Founded in 2002 by teacher Eniko Reeder and her partner Robert, the school began as a small Waldorf-inspired forest kindergarten and has grown into a vibrant program serving children from the early years through Grade 5.

From the beginning Singing Cedars was create with a simple but powerful intention: to preserve childhood. We offer a safe, nurturing environment where children are deeply known, respected and supported as they grow.

Our days unfold both indoors and out, with natureswoven into every aspect of school life. Children learn through stories, movement, art, and meaningful work—exploring praries, tending gardens, and building a strong connecton to the world around them.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a Waldorf-inspired education that nurtures each child, in recognition of their individual gifts, while supporting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth; to encourage and enrich independent thinking, imagination, connection to nature and community; and to cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

Singing Cedars is a provisional member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), working toward full accreditation.

Our Early Childhood program for ages 18 months and older, is a licensed child care center through the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, pursuing WECAN recognition.

Our Approach

At Singing Cedars we offer a joyful, developmentally grounded education that engages the whole child.

We recognize each child as an individual with unique gifts and challenges. Our teachers strive to meet students with warmth, respect, and curiousity, holding the belief that with the right support, every chid can grow with confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

Inspired by Waldorf education, our curriculum is designed to meet children at each stage of development. In the early years learning is rooted in play, imitation, and rhythm. As children grow, academics are introduced in a way that nurtures imagination, critical thinking, and a sense of purpose.

Our Community

Singing Cedars is more than a school. We are a community of families, teachers, and caregivers who share a commitment to supporting children in a thoughtful and intentional way.

we value strong relationships, open communication, and a spirit of collaboration. Parents are partners in the educational journey and festivals, seasonal rhythms, and shared work helped us create a sense of belonging for all.
