A Unique Location in Rural Southeast Iowa

Singing Cedars is a peaceful learning environment where children are invited to explore, create, and connect with the natural world. Nestled on a quiet piece of rural land in Fairfield, Iowa, this school reflects the principles of Waldorf education, blending nature, community, and a sense of wonder into each day’s rhythm.

The main campus grounds feature a farmhouse and three single-classroom buildings, each thoughtfully designed to feel like a second home. Warm and inviting, these spaces offer a nurturing environment that supports both creative and practical learning experiences. Our satellite campus houses the oldest of our Grades Program, located only a brisk walk north deeper into the countryside.

Surrounding the classrooms, gardens filled with diverse flowers, sprawling fields, and mature trees create a rich outdoor landscape for play and discovery. Tire swings, climbing ropes, and natural play structures are seamlessly integrated into the grounds, inviting children to develop their physical skills, imagination, and connection to the earth. Apple trees and seasonal gardens provide opportunities for hands-on activities that deepen respect for the cycles of nature.

The air is filled with the scents of nature and the sounds of joyful exploration, making it a truly special place where children grow, learn, and find their place within a supportive community.
