EMPLOYMENT
GRADE 1 CLASS TEACHER
The Grade 1 Class teacher will engage a class of 6-12 children through a full Waldorf curriculum, and work collaboratively with parents and colleagues to provide the greatest possible support for each student.
The lead teacher must be present for the duration of each school day, is expected to attend weekly faculty and section meetings, to participate in seasonal festivals, and to maintain active communication with parents, colleagues, and administration.
The ideal candidate has full Waldorf teacher training and years of experience in a classroom. Individuals with either classroom experience or Waldorf training alone will be considered. The applicant must demonstrate a commitment to further study of Rudolf Steiner’s child development, Waldorf education and Anthroposophy. A warm heart and pioneering spirit, and willingness to help create infrastructure, policies and procedures are essential!
Singing Cedars School offers holistic education for children in Preschool-Grade 4, and actively engages Waldorf curriculum and anthroposophical ideas of human development. We currently have two early childhood classes and two combined grades classes, located on three semi-wooded acres, and in walking distance from a beautiful mixed forest and reservoir. Our Grades program is expanding to include Grade 5 in the Fall of 2024, with a Grades 4 & 5 combined class moving to a satellite campus. To the extent possible, teachers cycle with their class through the Grades. Our current campus is located at the edge of a unique small town, in rural southeast Iowa, with a local population of 10,000. Surrounded by a trail system for walking and biking, Fairfield boasts a small-town, cosmopolitan feel, thanks in large part to its progressive culture embedded in serene surroundings.
This is a full-time, salaried position. The salary range is $31,000-$36,000, with pay depending on the teacher’s training and experience. Lead teachers are eligible for five paid days for illness or personal time, and may also use up to two additional Flex Professional Development days, reserved for school visits or conferences. Additionally, 50% tuition remission is available for students of full-time salaried teachers.
Lead teachers are expected to be present for all scheduled school days, meetings and festivals, and to work flexible hours beyond the school day, as needed to complete professional responsibilities. Teachers are also expected to be present on-campus a minimum of one week leading up to the first day of school and one week following the last. Summer hours are flexible, but typically include some form of professional development training and thorough preparation for the forthcoming school year.

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR
This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with the Board President and College Chair to ensure smooth communication between the governing constituents of the school. The School Administrator attends board meetings in a consulting position and acts as a non-voting member; attends faculty meetings when needed; and works closely with and provides oversight to the Development Director.
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, responsible for oversight of all day-to-day operations of the school, including finances, enrollment services, accreditation and licensing, communication, facilities, and human resources.
Areas of responsibility:
Financial
Oversight and implementation of school finances - financial responsibilities including:
Tuition payments, financial aid
Education Savings Accounts
Early Childhood scholarship program
Payroll, payroll taxes,;bookkeeping (requires use of quickbooks)
Facilities and pedagogical expenditures
School budget development and tracking
Enrollment contracts and employee contracts
Enrollment Services, Accreditation & Center Licensing
Provides support and communication to parents during the application process and onboarding of students
Supports faculty in arranging interviews with families
Oversee school’s participation in becoming fully accredited through ISACS
Begin the application process for WECAN membership
Performs tasks related to maintaining state licensure for the early childhood program

The School Administrator is the primary contact for parents regarding non-pedagogical issues; they are responsible for communication decisions, processes, protocol, etc. in the following areas:
School closures and events
Health and safety
Contracts
Tuition
Website updates
Facilities
Responsible for oversight and communication regarding all facilities-related issues, including:
Roads, buildings, school closures, and health and safety measures
Human Resources
Prepares annual employee contracts
Supports employee onboarding / orientation
Maintains employee files and required paperwork
Manages Google Workspace users, groups, etc.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a School Administrator, experience in education, and be familiar with the Waldorf approach. The School Administrator must have the ability to use a computer (e.g. MS Office, Google Docs); they must have strong communication skills, keen organizational ability, attention to detail, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, as well as good judgment and decision-making aptitude.

For the 2024-2025 school year, the School Administrator will work closely with a Development Director, to oversee the day-to-day operations of the school and the further development of its programs, respectively; the School Administrator and Development Director will also work in partnership with the school’s volunteer Board of Directors and the College of Teachers.
Benefits include partial tuition remission for enrolled students of staff, 4 days paid-time-off, a supportive collegial environment, and a professional development stipend. This is a full-time, salaried position, paying up to $40,000 year, depending on experience.
The School Administrator is expected to be available on campus throughout the school day, Monday-Friday, and be available on a regular basis to meet with families and other staff. Work hours will include some evening and weekend hours. Federal holidays are granted for all school employees. The School Administrator is granted one week off during Winter Break and three weeks off during Summer, and has a lightened schedule between June and August.

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with the School Administrator.
The Development Director attends board meetings in a consulting position and acts as a non-voting member; attends faculty meetings when needed; and works closely with and takes direction from the School Administrator.
This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week, responsible for oversight of all aspects of the development of the school, including advertising, marketing, outreach, fundraising, grant writing and parent volunteers.
Areas of responsibility:
Advertising/Marketing
Determining appropriate advertising streams for the school, including:
Growing relationships with advertising streams to ensure regular school exposure
Drafting flyers, advertisements, etc. for school events
Creating and maintaining a timeline of advertising deadlines for school functions and events
Determining marketing venues for external school functions and events
Parent Volunteers
Implementation and oversight of parent volunteers, including ensuring that volunteers are provided when needed
Establishing processes for volunteer sign ups
Development
Grant writing
Locating other funding sources
Promotes Waldorf education within the community
Fundraising
Oversight of all school fundraising events
Works closely with other committees and school staff involved with fundraising events
