Board Committees

Finance & Development

The Finance & Development committee meets biweekly, providing oversight for the school’s

finances and developing proposals for implementing said finances. The committee develops and tracks the school budget, considers facilities and pedagogical expenditures, and reviews

enrollment and employee contracts with regard to costs. The committee also supports

development of the school and its programs by planning fundraisers and considering ways to

support a full Waldorf curriculum for all students. The organization’s budget is managed on a monthly basis, at minimum, through recording of all income and expenses, as well as through categorical spending and saving. Members maintain physical and digital access to the organization’s financial accounts, including the board president and treasurer, and the school administrator. Monthly and quarterly tax filings/payments are managed by the school administrator, while 990 filing and other more involved financial support is hired out to a local accounting firm. The Finance Committee is committed to responsible management of the organization’s resources, and occasionally invites qualified individuals from the financial field to advise the committee in its work. Furthermore, the committee invests in long-range planning in the service of upholding the organization’s mission for years to come.

Buildings & Grounds

The Buildings & Grounds committee meets on an as-needed basis, and works with staff,

volunteers, and paid professionals to ensure that all buildings, facilities, and outdoor campus

areas are safe and well-maintained. The committee supports festivals and events held on

campus by coordinating the preparation of the grounds and buildings, as well as thorough

take-down and clean-up after events.

Outreach & Communication

The purpose of the Outreach & Communication committee is to share and promote Waldorf education and experiences in the Fairfield community and surrounding areas. The committee meets monthly, or additionally, as needed. The scope of “outreach” is to make services provided by the school available to the community; while these efforts may benefit enrollment, this is not the sole focus. Philanthropy and participation in the broader community are also aspects of outreach, i.e providing a free puppet show at the public library or caroling at a nursing home. The scope of “communication” entails sharing information about school programs/events within the school community as well as the surrounding areas (via email, posters, website and social media, newspapers); it also entails creating spaces for dialogue amongst various constituents of the school community.

Health & Safety

The Health & Safety committee meets quarterly, to review school health-related policies, to discuss any relevant concerns raised by members of the community, and to discuss ways in which the school can support optimal health for children, families, and staff.
